Lu, Ya Qi Fara - Vice-President
Fara is a final year student from Beijing; she has been enjoying her life here in Hong Kong. In particular, the exposure to a multi-cultural environment and the experience of self-directed learning has been very beneficial to me.
Moreover, she has tried out many things new, such as operating a non-profit student organization for textbook exchanging, getting involved in Dr. Koon Fung Lam's research projects on material science, studying abroad for a semester in the University of Pennsylvania, as well as having a summer internship at BASF, and she is looking forward to more. She believes that taking part in the AIChE Student Chapter events is definitely one of the exciting and meaningful experiences that she is looking for.
Li, Oi Kei Eunice - Vice-President
Eunice has chosen to study Chemical and Environmental Engineering because she wishes to understand the environmental problems caused by industrial processes, and to learn about the practical methods of solving them. By far, she has gained some basic but vital concepts and knowledge from professors, textbooks and various inspiring field trips organized by HKUST. Through this student chapter, she is hoping to provide our fellow students, including ourselves a better chance to recognize our future options and paths, specifically in the fields of chemical engineering.
Yeoh Keat Ping - Vice-President
Keat Ping is currently a penultimate year student in the 3-year Bachelor of Chemical Engineering program offered by HKUST. She was born and bred in Malaysia, a developing country in South East Asia. Prior to her enrollment as a full time undergraduate student in HKUST, she studied the British-patterned GCE A-Levels. Although she is an international student, she is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and converse with her fellow schoolmates regularly in these languages.
During her summer break, she took part in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) under the supervision of Professor Guohua Chen. Other than that, she is currently engaged in the peer mentorship program under the CBME Department to offer guidance to new recruits in the department.
Veronica Gunawan - Program Secretary
Veronica is a final year student majoring in Chemical and Bioproduct Engineering. She is an international student coming from Indonesia. Studying in a good environment just like HKUST has been motivating her to keep exploring other potentials, such as in being a good leader. That is the reason why she decided to participate actively in HKUST International Student Association (ISA) as one of the executive committee members. She worked in a multicultural team to promote internationalization of this campus through our self-arranged cultural and social events.
She also joined School of Engineering Peer Mentor Program as the mentor of few freshmen. From this program, she learned to be responsible in helping them to go through their transition into university starting from their academic life to social life. Besides those activities, she recently participated in overseas exchange program to University of Toronto in Canada. The program has given her a fruitful experience in expanding her interest towards her study in chemical engineering and cultural differences.
Marni Adityawati- Promotional Secretary
Marni is a final year international student from Indonesia, majoring in Chemical Engineering. She went for an academic exchange at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta in Spring 2013.
Apart from academic activities, she contributed as a founding financial manager of Indonesian Students in HKUST (MUSTI), which helps new and continuing Indonesian students in UST adapt better in the university life by bonding with fellow students with similar background. She also served in HKUST School of Engineering as a student ambassador (2011-2012) and as a peer mentor for newly admitted engineering students. She recently worked in Air Products Hong Kong as a summer intern (2013) for a two-month period, mainly did research on the different theories and approaches of Gasification Efficiency.
Lee, Jong Hong Winsor - IT Secretary
Winsor is a final year international student from Malaysia. He met friends from different background by joining student societies and clubs like University Choir, Archery club, Dragon boat club, House III student association and CBME student society. Practicing and sharing with club members allow him to release stress and improve his abilities. He joined the university choir of HKUST when he first came to university. He was pretty nervous in the beginning as most of the members are local and they always speak Cantonese. Luckily he is a Malaysian and learnt a bit Cantonese before but still not as good as them. He realized most international students said it is hard to maintain a close relationship with the local students because their styles are quite different but I found they are actually very friendly. He hopes this student chapter can build up a close relationship with people of different nationalities.
Liu, Xin Lu Anna - Finanical Secretary
Anna is interested in seeking plant tours and graduate schools. With the fact that the opportunities for chemical engineers sometimes are limited in Hong Kong, we have to think globally. Getting sense of the future work place or study campus would be a good idea. Therefore, she took part in UROP programs for two semesters, from which she benefited a lot. She is also longing for something like learning groups to gather students to share information and experiences.
In addition, this can boost up the study efficiency. Besides all the stuffs about study or research, she is also fond of services and sports. She was the Financial Secretary of the Kendo Club, HKUST SU, which was a great team. She was also a member of Connect, HKUST. From there she learnt the actual meaning of caring and help. As a CBPE student, she is honoured to have the opportunity to join this chapter, through which I could make efforts to better the lives and study of other CBME students.
Aditi Bhasin - Program Secretary
Aditi is a second year student, pursuing BEng in Chemical and Environmental Engineering. Concern for environment and the need to protect our Earth made me delve into this field. She completed her IBDP in 2012 with a score of 42/45 and was awarded scholarship at HKUST. In the spring semester, she was selected to appear on the Dean’s List for the School of Engineering. she aims to attain the highest level of education and transcend new horizons.
In order to enrich her personality development skills, she continues to take part in social activities at the university. She is one of the members of iVillage Community wherein she interacts with people from various cultures, and gains knowledge while learning to respect the differences. Her passion to explore new possibilities and contribute to the society initiated her to join the REDbird Community at HKUST. She is thrilled to be a part of the student chapter of AIChE as it will be a great opportunity to interact with peers and experts who have a similar interest area.
