Li, Oi Kei Eunice - President
I am Eunice, a 3Y-Year 3 Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEEV) student at HKUST. I am a local but I have been to New Zealand and Australia for high school and university. This has exposed me to many different cultures and I am happy to work with people from different nations.
I chose to study chemical engineering because I believe this is the most practical way to solve environmental problems at the origins, which are mostly related to industrial processes and factories. By applying concepts learnt from chemical engineering courses, energy can be used more efficiently and effectively, and zero waste production is no longer a dream.
After graduation, I hope to work in the environmental fields and contribute my knowledge and skills on making Hong Kong a better, more sustainable place for everyone to live in. In the next few years, I will also make for chartered environmental engineer.
Aditi Bhasin - Vice-President
I am Aditi, a final year student pursuing Chemical and Environmental Engineering at HKUST. I aim to attain the highest level of education and transcend new horizons.
In order to enrich my personality development skills, I take part in various social activities at the university. My passion to explore new possibilities and contribute to the society initiated me to join the HKUST REDbird Award Program, a student leadership development program. As one of the founder members of AIChE-HKUST Student Chapter, I had opportunities to meet passionate Chemical Engineers and to work with a team of diverse background.
Concern for environment and the need to protect our Earth made me delve into the field of environment. I want to work as an environmental consultant in the future and put forth my best efforts in creating a sustainable world.

When I started my BEng in Chemical Engineering at the HKUST, I realized that the quote doesn’t just apply to the time dimension, but also the matters. The chief duty of chemical engineer is to turn virtually useless substances into something valuable and useful. Nothing is a waste of matter if you use the substance wisely.
My name is Abraham. Feel free to associate it with the great person in History and the prophet in the Bible. If I can share their wisdom, I do hope the wisdom can make our student chapter a stronger and more powerful community.

Hello everybody! I am Mahak. I come from a small city in India called Dehradun. I am a second year CBME student.
I chose to study CBME because of my love for Chemistry in high school. And after taking CENG 1000- Introduction to Chemical Engineering, Prof Henry Lam convinced me, beyond a doubt, that this major was meant for me.
I believe that AIChE has great potential because it is not only a Student Society at University level but also a global network of Chemical engineers. I believe I can contribute to this Committee by bringing to the table my passion, dedication and hard work.

This quote of decision making always reminds me about my personal decision to take Chemical Engineering as my undergraduate major. I was motivated to take Chemical Engineering major as its prospective career opportunities include the food industry. Having studied this major for three years now, I am sure enough that it is a right choice for me.
Chemical engineering provides a deep and broad knowledge about products and processes related concepts that I find very essential for my future career. Studying chemical engineering has also sharpened my analytical skill a lot and I feel that I am getting closer to my dream job.

My name is Winnie. I come from Malaysia, and I’m studying Chemical Engineering in HKUST. This marks my second year in Hong Kong, and I’m enjoying my university life so far! Despite all the stress one has to experience throughout the semesters, I am still able to find time to do what I like, such as hiking, photography, shopping and playing video games. I have to admit, it was the interest in Chemistry which led me onto the path to study Chemical Engineering, as I was curious how one could synthesize the chemicals that we use in our lives. I am really glad that the major I’ve chosen allows me to learn the ways to utilize engineering tools and apply my knowledge in Chemistry to solve problems. My dream is to make the world a better place to live in, and that motivates me a lot to become a chemical engineer in the future.

My name is Jordy Evan Sulaiman, a student from Indonesia, studying Chemical and Bio Molecular Engineering (CBME) in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Being a university student for around one year, I did realize that education is merely a bridge that creates a link between us and the world. Being able to apply the knowledge that I learn to real life, enhancing the life quality of human beings, is the whole purpose of my academic study.
Therefore, I believe that chemical engineering is a perfect major for me. I am interested to know how chemical engineers see the world. In fact, chemical engineers generate products that are critical in human lives. Hence, assuring product qualities and safety, and be able to serve the public at best, is the vision of every chemical engineers. I am confident that the knowledge I learn about chemical engineering will not only bring me to a perfect future, but also help better the lives of others.
Beside my passion in helping other people, I am a person who like to extend my knowledge and study many other things. As an example, I am currently joining iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) which is a worldwide synthetic biology competition where university students from around the world will share their synthetic biology projects and explain how those are applicable in daily lives. Hence, by studying synthetic biology and many things, I try to see things from different perspectives and integrate my whole knowledge to help me see the world better.

My name is LIU Yishan, a 4Y student majoring in chemical engineering. I’m from Xi’an, Mainland China. I have enjoyed my previous years studying in HKUST. I have met and worked with different people through these two years, which impressed me a lot. In my third year, I will be going on exchange to UPenn for one semester to explore more about the world.

To me, chemical engineering is the most diverse engineering discipline as it revolves around our daily lives. Chemical engineers can work in wide variety of fields such as food industry, pharmaceutical companies, consumer goods companies etc. Hence, this led me to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering after my high school. Hi! My name is Garima, and I am a second-year undergraduate student studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I first found my love of chemistry in high school, when I got to lock myself all alone in a high-tech chemistry lab while researching for my IB extended essay. It only took a few ammonia spills and a mini-fire for me to realize that this was what I wanted to continue doing in college. This, coupled with my inner desire to make things that were useful and actually worked, led me to finally choose chemical engineering as my major.
As an executive committee member of AIChE-HKUST, I hope to contribute to the growth of chemical engineering, both as a major for students and as an area of interest accessible to all. I also hope to be able to benefit from this platform and integrate myself into the CBME community both inside and outside university.

I am Samantha, studying Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management :BBA in General Business Management and BEng in Chemical & Bioproduct Engineering. To me, chemical engineering is a subject which is difficult, yet useful and fun. Through three years of study, I grow more and more interested in this subject, and start to realize its huge impacts on the life of human beings, from the manufacture of drugs to the development of renewable energies. Hi everyone! I’m Kat, a final year undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering. I was born and bred in Malaysia and I studied the British-patterned A-Levels prior to my studies in HKUST. After studying Chemical Engineering courses for 2 years, I am certain that I chose the right major. I enjoy the problem-solving approach in engineering, and I find it fulfilling when I manage to solve a difficult problem. Hong Kong has much to offer and I enjoy hiking, as well as exploring the streets of the urban city during my spare time. I hope to be able to utilise my engineering skills in the area of energy generation after graduation.

My name is Carolina Garcia, but most of my friends call me Carol. I come from El Salvador, Latin America, and I am a 3rd year CBME student in HKUST.
One of the main reasons I chose engineering as my major is because I love the idea of helping others and improving people’s lives through my knowledge and skills. I’ve been conducting undergraduate research since my first year, and my main interests are materials and catalysts.
In the future I would love to be able to develop chemical engineering in my region, and at the same time help vulnerable communities in my country as well as other developing countries.
